Preston Brown Jr. was born and raised in the 34th Ward, located on the south side of Chicago. His mother was an elementary school teacher and his father was a laborer at the Chicago Transit Authority for 35 years. Preston’s parents instilled in him the importance of maintaining strong family ties and placed an emphasis on valuing both the community and education at an early age. He was elected in March 2020 to the position of Democratic Committeeman of the 34th Ward in Chicago.
As a graduate of Whitney Young Magnet High School in Chicago, Preston attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He continued his educational pursuits obtaining a Master of Business Administration degree concentrating in real estate from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Governors State University, and a Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law.
Most recently, Preston and his wife completed an Associates in Applied Science concentrating in Funeral Service Education at Vincennes University. He holds a professional educator’s license (Type 75) with a Chief School Business Official endorsement, issued by the Illinois State Board of Education. Preston is a Community Representative on the Local School Council (LSC) at Percy L. Julian High School.
Possessing a diverse work history, Preston has worked in the areas of consumer finance, telecommunications, securities, real estate, insurance and higher education. He is currently an attorney in private practice and is accredited with the Veterans Administration (VA). Preston believes that it is fundamentally necessary to empower the community by creating new small businesses, new jobs that provide competitive wages, developing skilled job training opportunities, increasing the quality of education and focusing on building skills-based vocational training in our neighborhood schools.
Preston is married to Eva Brown and is the proud father of one son, Daniel. Preston is a strong advocate for providing our children with every opportunity possible to ensure preparation for a successful future. He makes it a point to dialog with primary, secondary, and collegiate educators to discuss the areas that need improvement. He believes that bringing a sense of community back to our neighborhoods, financial transparency, economic and educational opportunities and promoting love and respect of our fellow man will bring about transformational change in our communities.
Preston is an experienced leader that understands the importance of connecting with his constituents. He makes it a point to meet and talk with residents about the issues that are most important to the community. He is honored to be the elected Democratic Committeeman of the 34th Ward. He would be most honored to further continue his service as Alderman of the 21st Ward.
